What makes it hard

Factors that might limit the level of reflection that is possible:

  • levels of self awareness
  • how safe people feel in whatever setting the reflection is taking place
  • how clear people are about what it is they were trying to achieve in the first place
  • whether or not personal beliefs, judgments, perceptions, assumptions limit what we see – ‘selective recall’ about what happened
  • whether the workplace culture encourages and prioritises reflection
Think of a recent situation that you’ve been involved in which didn’t go quite how you intended (work or general life) and spend a few moments reflecting on what happened, why it happened and what you might have done differently?
What two key points emerge for you?
How would you act differently in the future?
Would you approach this task differently if others could see what you write?
